Sunday, 9 September 2012 as the Amsterdam City Swim comes to town.

The event is held to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease. The Amsterdam City Swim sees about 1,000 brave swimmers to raise a minimum of 300 euros sponsorship before diving into the canals to swim the 2,028-metre course.

The swim starts from the Marine Establishment Amsterdam, braving the waters of the IJ before heading down the Nieuwe Herengracht. They then take a left up the River Amstel towards Royal Theatre Carré before doubling back and taking another left to the finish on the Keizersgracht (at the crossing with the Utrechtsestraat). The event gets underway shortly after 13:00 and swimmers are expected to finish from 13:45 onwards.

Unfortunately the registration for this year’s event has already closed, but it going to be quite a sight. So what are you waiting for, if you are in Amsterdam head along and support the swimmers as they make their way along the Amsterdam canals to the finish. Also get a chance to meet Dutch cabaret star Jeroenvan koningsbrugge and live DJs.
